Along the road of life there are bridges,
tunnels, tollbooths and lanes of all different speeds. As the journey progresses numerous exits make it possible to experience
a completely new part of our world. Student Ambassador Programs are a way for young high school student like myself to see
the beauty of the world, which surrounds us. It provides a way to experience a unique culture and way of life not abundant
in the United States. Ambassador programs visit each of the seven continents and allow students to learn and grow in an environment
outside of the "comfort zone". By giving an individual a plane ticket you are giving them the key to a world of opportunity.
New friendships and relationships flourish as students learn outside of the mundane classroom. One can only learn so much
in a structured school environment where the repetitive lessons and monotony of routine only act as a distraction from the
fast paced, constantly changing world neighboring us. What value does an education hold if it cannot be utilized? By using
elite students as ambassadors, foreign leaders and citizens are able to learn about the American culture without dealing with
politics. Too often is a country defined by its government. Ambassador programs allow for a unique view and new perspective
on the beauty of people and the world they inhabit. Ambassador programs eliminate meaningless names. We all inhabit the same
planet Earth hence; we are derived from one people where differences become footnotes. It has been said that the future of
the world is in the hands of the children. By placing a plane ticket in a child's hand he or she is able to help change the
world one journey at a time.
My
name is Jesse and I reside in New Jersey. I have traveled with the prestigious People to People Student Ambassador Program
to Sydney, Darwin and Cairns Australia. Now an Alumnus I have the ability to travel with programs reserved for deserving alumni.
Numerous opportunities exist for ambitious students like me. In late December 2005 a delegation is departing for South Africa
for 15 days. The problem though carries a $5,995 price tag, which makes it virtually impossible for a full time student to
travel.
THE
MATH
With
an average salary of $7 per hour assume I work 4 hours a day 6 days a week after school. This means $672 per month. With
4 1/2 months until departure it is possible to make $3024 not counting the money subtracted because of taxes.
I am left about $3000 short. This is not counting spending money.
